The Metaverse was Here All Along

By Joseph G Edwards

Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement of Facebook’s rebranding as “Meta” was certainly a defining moment in metaverse history. The focus from a simple social media platform to a virtual reality-based space has been one of the hottest topics going around. However, most people don’t know that the metaverse has been around long before Facebook’s involvement.

Metaverse is a general term for a virtual world where people can do a lot of the things we do in real life, like work, socialize, conduct business, attend concerts or even visit art galleries. A lot of metaverse cryptocurrency initiatives have been launched over the past few years that are already providing the features Facebook plans to roll out with Meta.

What’s more, unlike Facebook’s meta which is controlled by a single body, these metaverses are completely decentralized. One of these initiatives is the Neos Metaverse.

What is the Neos Metaverse?

Neos metaverse is an all-encompassing virtual reality package that reimagines and generalizes how social experiences and virtual creations are created, allowing them to coexist in one shared place. Neos’ underlying architecture is designed to dynamically combine complex environments and functions constructed directly within Neos, based on basic yet powerful building pieces in an extendable future-proof manner.

Neos allows people to convert their ideas into virtual objects that are tangible. This Metaverse engine also offers a decentralized environment where users can share their ideas with others. By allowing users from different parts of the world to work together in a virtual world, Neos will considerably improve communication and collaboration between people.

This virtual environment allows users to interact with both living and nonliving objects within its metaverse and spans all areas of life as we know it. Additionally, even though interaction within the Neos Metaverse is as realistic as possible, it is not constrained by physical concepts such as gravity.

The Neos Metaverse experience is largely focused on virtual reality and cutting-edge technologies that enhance the user’s experience.  NCR transactions, facial tracking, full-body tracking, and Messaging services are among the current features of this engine. Opportunities for the application of this technology can even be found in our day-to-day lives. The experience can be automated to handle simple repetitive tasks by saving the process.

History of Neos Metaverse

Neos was formerly named Sorilax and was co-founded by two of the original Oculus Rift Kickstarter campaign backers Tomas “Frooxius” Mariancik and Karel “Karel” Hulec in 2015.

Both co-founders were VR experts who had a common dream to apply virtual reality (VR) technology for purposes like improving education, work, and science rather than just using it for gaming and enjoyment.

As part of Rothenberg Ventures’ initial River VR accelerator in early 2015, Sorilax became one of the very first startups to receive funding in the VR space. Over the past few years, the project has developed immensely and has been rebranded from Sorilax to Neos Metaverse.  Neos is now one of the most revolutionary metaverse engines that have redefined the conventional procedures to improve social immersive experiences and tools.

Features of Neos Metaverse

Many of the extra services that make Neos more user-friendly can be considered centralized in nature. In order to make Neos as practical and user-friendly as possible, there are active sessions lookup services, content publishing services, and a relay server service for when direct and NAT punch-through connections fail, in a scalable centralized form.

However, Neos is still a decentralized peer-to-peer software at its core. Any user can host as many peers as their bandwidth and computational capabilities will allow. Neos even performs admirably on local/isolated networks. The development team is working to transition the centralized features mentioned above to their decentralized alternatives

Neos Metaverse will also integrate both traditional decentralized technology, such as global consensus blockchain networks e.g Ethereum, distributed hash tables, and peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing protocols e.g BitTorrent, as well as emerging decentralized technology, such as local consensus autonomous data networks (SAFE Network) and various distributed computing platforms, as time goes on.

Variables, references, arrays, lists, dictionaries, trees, or classes, make up the core of Neos as building blocks that are equivalents of basic programming data structures. All higher-level behaviors, subsystems, tools, and interfaces, as well as the core engine functionality, are created from these building pieces, making none of the functions “unique.”

This enables the Neos Metaverse to achieve the rapid design and implementation of new subsystems, components, tools, or entity behaviors without the need for continuous network programming. All of the system components are can also function with the same set of information or commands.

The Neos Metaverse is powered by the Neos Credits Token. The token is used for in-game trading and transacting between players. It is worth mentioning that the NCR token is being distributed through an ICO on Neos’s Website. In order to participate in the ICO, the buyer is required to send Ethereum to the smart contract address shared on the website. The buyers receive their tokens within 48 hours. Alternatively, the NCR token can also be purchased on the Uniswap exchange.

Potential Future Applications of the Neos Metaverse

The Covid-19 pandemic altered the way many corporations do business. The popularity of remote work and using tools like Zoom and Slack has made people realize that working remotely opens up new options for cooperation, growth, and success.

The Neos Metaverse engine can offer a more efficient, streamlined, and convenient working experience over the current remote working solutions without physically interacting with coworkers, employers, and clients.

Neos Metaverse also has the potential to revolutionize eCommerce. Even though online purchasing and delivery have been the new norm since the pandemic, the Neos metaverse could further expedite this trend. Customers will be able to explore companies and their goods from the comfort of their own homes thanks to virtual reality and augmented reality experiences.

The combination of 3D holographic avatars with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality promises to make the Metaverse a groundbreaking piece of technology that will redefine how we interact with each other and sour environment. It’s being hailed as the next big step in the internet’s growth, with companies like Meta, Microsoft, and NVIDIA announcing their visions for this other universe.

However, with Decentralized platforms like the Neos Metaverse already available, there might be no reason to wait for the centralized corporations to release their versions of the metaverse. With amazing features that have the potential to revolutionize most aspects of our lives, it appears the future is already here
